Communication
Dragons may talk to anyone, though they generally do not talk to any other human save for their rider. They only ever refer to their rider or someone they like by name.
Sometimes, there are people who can hear and talk to all dragons. This is a rare, and there is usually only one or two of these people at the Weyr, at any time.
Dragon speech is written in colour.
Human thought-speech in italics.
Dragons are not extremely intelligent, though the most intelligent would be higher ranking colours- the metallics. Dragons do not have huge memories.
Mating flights
Green flights occur twice as often as Gold flights, meaning that they occur three or four times per turn.
Golds may be flown by Bronze or sometimes Brown dragons.
Greens may be flown by all three, but usually mate to Blue and Brown dragons.
Not all flights will be roleplayed here, but in all, the outcome must be decided before hand.
Clutching
Gold clutches usually have 20-45 eggs. Greens around 10-30.
Firestone* causes Green dragons to become infertile, but when they do clutch, they give only Green and Blue eggs.
"Just as well, or, since the greens tend to throw only green and blue dragons.." - Anne.
Gestation period is three months, after being laid, the eggs spend five weeks hardening. When the dragons begin to hum.. the hatching begins.
The Gold eggs are the largest and the Greens the smallest. Bronze eggs are hard to tell apart from the Gold, until the Queen moves the Gold away. Blue, Brown and larger Green eggs all appear to look the same to the untrained eye.
*In the books, green dragons were engineered to be infertile, but it is thought that firestone is the cause.
ooc:(We'll be ignoring that, at Thorn, though I'm still not sure if greens will be allowed to clutch.)
Hatching
Hatchings are a glorious event, bringing new people into the Weyr from all around. There is a great celebration and feast, and after the dragonets appetites are sated, the new Weyrlings may attend.
